In this Bengali New Year's day, about 500 bauls (pronounced as Baaool) sang, danced and marched all along the main streets of Kolkata from around Victoria Memorial (about 5 kilo meters) and gathered at Desapriyo Park in South Calcutta and made people dance and shake their hips with rythms of yester Bengal. Baul is a group of mystic minstrels from villages of Bengal belonging to a syncretic religious sect which has a long a musical tradition. |
